By May 3, 2016May 7th, 2018Blog

Are you looking to grow your business?

What about trying to pay less taxes?

If the answer is yes to both of these then this is just meant for you today. (if you didn’t answer yes, you’re crazy and I want to meet you, and ask if you are ok.) For you to keep business growing and taxes lowering, i want you to use this if you haven’t already. If you do already utilize this marketing method, then think more in depth how you can optimize it for your greater benefit.

The world’s oldest marketing tactic still works. Since the beginning, one of the best marketing methods has been to offer a free sample.

In most cases giving out samples is one of the least expensive ways of acquiring new customers.

Samples Prove Your Confidence

If you tried selling chocolate chip cookies that tasted like garbage, you’d probably not offer free samples. When you offer up samples, you’re basically saying your product is so good, that their is no way anyone would turn it down. Plus when someone gets a sample, they’re becoming familiar with the product, and people love buying things they are familiar with.

The Law of Reciprocity

This is something you have done more times then you remember. As human beings we are geared towards reciprocating. When you give something for free, people feel obligated to stick around longer than they normally would have. This gives you more time to further sell your product.

This is an excellent way to get people’s attention so they listen to what you have to say about what you’re selling. Free stuff gets attention and holding someone’s attention is hard to do these days.

Deduct that

When you give samples away, you are eligible to deduct the entire cost of that sample. As always though, you need to document it.

Example: You purchase $500 of product to give as samples. If you give it all away and make sure to document it properly then guess what you get to deduct? All $500 of it!

How to document it properly

  1. Who you gave the sample to
  2. What the product was
  3. Where you gave it away at
  4. How much it cost
  5. The date it was given

So, leverage your samples the get new business and document your efforts to decrease your tax burden.

Spend money to make money, plus spend money to save money…see what I did there?
